Client: British Columbia Lottery Corporation (BCLC) Event: VIP customer appreciation evening Venue: Grand Villa Casino and ATLAS Steak + Fish, Burnaby Guests: About 20 to 25 VIPs and invited guests Entertainment: Close-up magic and an interactive feature show
The objective
BCLC wanted an intimate evening for some of its most valued casino guests: people for whom personal attention and service are a real part of their relationship with the property.
The night combined dining, professional photography, personalized gifts and live entertainment. Every piece of it was meant to feel designed around the guests, not around a schedule.

The challenge
The feature show was booked for 8:00. Dinner service ran well past that.
That happens more often than people think, and it's where a lot of entertainment goes wrong. You can force the original timeline and perform over plates and cutlery. Or you can wait it out and start so late that the room has already begun to leave. Neither one serves the guests.
The solution
I split the show in two.
The planned performance became two experiences of about 20 minutes each. The first finished just as the main courses were ready to come out. Guests ate, the tables were cleared, and the second half picked up right after.
The entertainment worked around the restaurant instead of competing with it.

The result
Guests laughed, played along, and stayed locked in the whole way through. One particularly determined VIP spent a good part of the evening trying to reverse-engineer the illusions.
Afterward, several guests came over to keep the conversation going and asked for business cards. A visiting executive from Reno stayed long after the show to talk, and told me how impressed and entertained he'd been.

Alex Gomez from the BCLC team left a review the next day:
"Kel was a huge hit at our event. The close-up magic was incredible, and the show kept everyone entertained throughout the night. Professional, engaging, and easy to work with. Highly recommend!"

Angela Cheng, who built the evening, left hers a few weeks later:
"Kelvin was an absolute highlight of our VIP event! His close-up magic and magic show brought so much joy, excitement, and amazement to our guests, creating a truly next-level experience that people are still talking about.
Not only is Kelvin incredibly talented, but he is also a pleasure to work with. He was professional, flexible, easy-going, and worked seamlessly with our event schedule and venue setup. His ability to engage guests in an intimate and interactive way added a unique and memorable touch to the evening.
If you're looking for entertainment that will genuinely wow your guests and elevate your event, I highly recommend Kelvin. We would gladly work with him again in the future!"

"Worked seamlessly with our event schedule" is the line I'd point to. That was the whole job that night.
That was exactly what the BCLC team set out to create: a polished, personal evening that made important guests feel important.
The principle
The performance serves the event. The event does not serve the performance.
A timeline is a plan, not a contract. When dinner runs long, the job isn't to defend the run sheet. It's to find the version of the show that fits the night you actually have.
If you're planning a small, high-touch evening where every guest matters, let's talk about how the entertainment fits around it.
