How large a room can you cover?

I've performed for national conference banquets and hotel ballroom galas well over 300 guests. Reception-style close-up magic scales with room size since it works one small group at a time.

Do you coordinate with our other vendors, like AV or the venue's event team?

Yes. Close-up magic needs nothing from the venue, and for the stage show I coordinate directly with your AV team ahead of time so there's no surprise on the night.

Is the material appropriate for a formal, mixed-seniority audience?

Always. No off-colour humour, no jokes at the audience's expense. Volunteers are made to look good, which is exactly what a gala with donors and executives in the room needs.

Sun Life's Excellence Cup at the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver, a national awards banquet with VIP guests, where I ran the agenda as MC and performed the stage show the same night. The TELUS Premium Awards Gala. The Vancouver Aquarium's winter gala. Hotel ballroom galas at the Hyatt Regency, and formal dinners at the Terminal City Club.

What those rooms have in common is a printed program and somebody senior watching the clock. A gala is not a party with better clothes. There are sponsors to thank, awards to hand out in the right order, and a head table that notices when the night runs twelve minutes long. The magic has to fit inside that, which is a different skill from being funny for an hour.

One person covered the whole program. Close-up magic through the reception, the agenda hosted from the podium, and the stage show after dinner. Straight answers

A full appearance covering the reception and the after-dinner show runs from $5,000 for a larger formal event. A reception-only booking, close-up magic while guests mingle before the program, runs $2,000. Charity galas and fundraisers have their own lower tier: from $2,500 for two-hour reception coverage, from $4,000 for the full night. November and December are premium months and sell out first. Through that season I book the full evening only, at a flat $5,000, with no smaller packages.
