The short answer is anywhere from $100 to $20,000 and up. That range doesn't help anyone on its own, so here's what sits inside it.
How much does it cost to hire a magician in Vancouver?
Between $100 and $20,000 or more, depending on which of four tiers you hire from. Hobbyists charge under $500, generalist party entertainers $500 to $1,500, full-time professional magicians $1,500 to $5,000, and headline acts $5,000 to $20,000 and up. For a corporate event, gala or wedding, plan on the full-time professional tier.
The gap isn't about greed. It's about what you're buying. The act, yes. But also the insurance, the backup plan, and whether the person holding the microphone has done this in a room like yours before.
I've worked in three of these four tiers over 25 years. Here's how they break down.
What do headline magicians charge?
$5,000 to $20,000 and up. TV finalists, touring illusionists, cruise ship headliners. Big names, big production, big rider.
This tier makes sense when the name is part of the draw: a conference keynote slot, a brand launch, a gala where the entertainment is printed on the invitation. Expect tech requirements, travel costs and a green room. Book early, because the good ones plan a year out.
Worth it? Yes, if the budget is built around a headline. For a company holiday party, you're paying for fame the room may not need.
What does a full-time professional magician charge?
$1,500 to $5,000. This is my tier, and it's where most corporate events, galas and weddings in Vancouver should be booking.

A full-time pro does this for a living, and that changes what shows up at your door:
- Liability insurance, with a certificate your venue will accept
- A backup plan if something goes sideways
- Material that works for the CEO and somebody's spouse at the same table
- Someone who reads your run of show before the day, not at load-in
- Help placing the entertainment where it lands: cocktail hour, after dinner, or both
My own rates sit here, $1,500 to $5,000 plus GST depending on guest count and format. Every package is on the price list.

What do generalist party entertainers charge?
$500 to $1,500. Kids' parties, community centre events, family birthdays. The performer in this tier does magic, balloons, face painting, and maybe a Santa suit in December.
Nothing wrong with that. I spent years in this tier learning the craft, and for a family party it can be exactly right. The catch is range over depth. An act built for eight-year-olds doesn't always translate to a ballroom full of executives.

Why do some Vancouver magicians charge under $500?
Because it's a hobby or a side hustle, not a career. Performers in this tier charge $100 to $400, and many don't carry liability insurance, backup material or any experience running a corporate room.
For a backyard birthday, that can be fun. For a company party you've spent weeks planning, it's a gamble with your name on the booking. And when the venue asks for an insurance certificate, you want someone who has one.
Which magician tier is right for a corporate event?
The full-time professional tier for most company parties, galas and weddings, and the headline tier when the budget is built around a famous name. Both bring insurance, a tested act and someone who can read the room. The two lower tiers suit kids' parties and small community events.
Whoever you book, ask them four things:
- Do you carry liability insurance, and can you name our venue on the certificate?
- What do you need from the room?
- What happens if dinner runs 30 minutes late?
- Have you performed for an audience like ours, and who can I call about it?
A pro answers all four without blinking.
Frequently asked questions
What's the average cost to hire a magician for a corporate event in Vancouver?
$2,000 to $4,000 plus GST covers most company parties of 50 to 200 guests. Smaller rooms can come in lower, and large conferences run higher.
Why is there such a big gap between magician prices?
Because the tiers are different jobs. A hobbyist is selling a few tricks. A full-time professional is selling a planned, insured, tested part of your evening.
Do magicians charge more in December?
I do. Through November and December I book the full evening only, at $5,000 plus GST, because those dates sell out first.
Do I pay extra for travel within Metro Vancouver?
Not with me. Travel anywhere in Metro Vancouver is baked into the quote.
Want a real number for your date? Send me the date, venue and headcount and I'll come back with an exact quote the same day. If I'm not the right fit, I'll point you at someone who is. You can also see how Vancouver's corporate magicians compare.
