A corporate magician who crosses the water for it.
The Fairmont Empress booked their own staff gala, then sent us to Chateau Victoria, who booked theirs. Six Victoria venues so far, from the Empress to the University of Victoria to a 145-guest charity night at Bear Mountain. Victoria books entertainment from the mainland all the time. The ferry is the easy part. What matters is that the performer arrives knowing your run of show.

What it looks like at your Victoria event

The format is the same one that runs on the mainland: close-up magic worked through the room during a reception or cocktail hour, table to table as dinner starts, and a 45 to 60 minute stage show after the meal. MC hosting if the evening needs someone running it.
Island bookings tend to cluster: conference socials, association banquets, client appreciation nights and executive dinners. Close-up magic suits all four because it scales from 30 guests to 300 without losing the personal feel, and needs nothing from the venue. No stage, no AV, no green room.

Conference banquets
NETCO, the national electrical trade council, ran their conference banquet at the Inn at Laurel Point on Montreal Street. Mingling magic through the reception, the buffet, then the stage show after the meal, timed around their program rather than dropped into it.

Hotels booking their own staff night
The Fairmont Empress booked a gala for their own team in February 2025, which is a harder room than it sounds: hotel staff have watched every kind of event there is. It also took a year to get. They approached me the season before and we could not make the program work, so they waited and booked me for the following year instead. A twenty-minute show to open their awards, then close-up magic through the room all night. I brought John Ha along at no charge so there was enough coverage for everyone. The Empress team then referred us to Chateau Victoria, who booked their employee appreciation night that spring. The Fairmont Pacific Rim booked the year after that, for a Crimson Hotel themed evening held at the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver. One Fairmont's own staff recommending you to another Fairmont is about as good as a reference gets.

Golf resorts and fundraisers
Core-Mark International's charity golf night at the Westin Bear Mountain Golf Resort, 145 guests raising money for ovarian cancer research. An hour and a half of close-up through the room, then a short show at 8:30 once everyone was seated.

Universities and bar rooms
A 110-guest evening at the University of Victoria on Finnerty Road, and a fiftieth anniversary party on the covered patio at CRAFT Beer Market on Victoria Harbour. Rooms with no stage and a lot of noise are exactly where close-up wins, because it goes to the guest instead of asking the guest to come to it.

Galas and award nights
The stage show is timed around your program rather than dropped into the middle of it. Awards, speeches and the show can share an evening without any of them feeling rushed.
“Kelvin managed the evening's agenda with professional precision while simultaneously captivating our VIPs and guests. The night concluded with a truly fantastic magic show that left everyone mesmerized.”

How Island bookings actually work
Travel is quoted as one all-in number, never billed back as a separate line item after the fact. Victoria and Vancouver Island sit in the ferry travel zone, which adds a set amount to the quote, reduced if accommodation is provided. You will know the total before you book, not after.
Multi-day and back-to-back Island bookings are worth asking about directly. Crossing for two or three events in the same trip changes the arithmetic in your favour, and it happens more often than you would think.

Regularly, and at six different Victoria venues. The Fairmont Empress booked their own staff gala in February 2025 and then referred us to Chateau Victoria for their appreciation night. NETCO ran their national conference banquet at the Inn at Laurel Point. Core-Mark International hosted 145 guests at the Westin Bear Mountain Golf Resort. There have also been evenings at the University of Victoria and at CRAFT Beer Market on Victoria Harbour. Island work reaches beyond Victoria too, including Nanaimo.
